JPD Award

Acton Bridge Station wins Commendation in JPD's Best Kept Station Awards

Acton Bridge Station, December 2003

Volunteer members of Acton Bridge Women's Institute have cleared the neglected station flower beds of weeds and debris, and planted bulbs and shrubs to improve the appearance of the station. The bulbs were kindly provided by Vale Royal Borough Council, weed-inhibiting tree bark was donated and delivered by a local farmer, and financial support and safety equipment were received from Central Trains. The WI and other volunteers from the village have continued to keep the station and its car park tidy, as part of our "Best Kept Village" effort, and also in support of their entry for "Best Kept Station" (click for details of the initiative by JPD).

The superb commemorative plaque is in the shape and colours of the old London Midland signage, and with permission from Central Trains has now been affixed to the station frontage, where it will be visible to all and, we hope, unlikely to be vandalised.

The December issue of "Cheshire Life" (p30) featured the competition winners, and quoted Judy Pardoe's appreciation of the Commendation: "The award is a vindication of all the hard work. It's lovely to be recognised, but I would also like to congratulate JPD for devising this wonderful initiative". There were also illustrated articles in the Northwich Chronicle and the Northwich Guardian on Wednesday 10. December.
